That's Right, AP!

The AP has chosen Tina Fey as their Entertainer of the Year, and I couldn't agree more. Among other laudatory things they had to say about this decision, the AP describes Fey as, "She is the epitome of the smart kid coming out on top for once."

Nice one guys. Anyway, this is a choice by the AP that I think really fits. Fey has been around for quite some time doing some remarkably excellent comedy even in difficult circumstances (read: the SNL cast over the past few years) but this year she really blew up. The existing success and hilarity of 30 Rock certainly laid a good groundwork, but then along came a... well... yeah, you betcha, set of circumstances that might as well have been out of a story book. (remember that fake movie trailer? Ok... Tina Fey didn't make that but still...)

Anyway, good choice AP. I agree.

New Favorite Political One-Liner

There have been lots of barbs tossed around this week at the Democratic Convention, and I hope people are starting to feel satisfied that the party is really going on the offensive against McCain, the Republicans, etc. Still, I missed this great line and only caught it today when Andrew Sullivan posted about how he missed it.

Peggy Noonan caught it, as did, apparently everybody out in Denver:

"By the way, the best line of the convention so far? Ted Strickland of Ohio, when he echoed the 1988 Democratic convention joke about George H.W. Bush, that he was born on third and thought he hit a triple. Strickland said of George W. Bush that he was born on third and then stole second. It didn't get much attention in any of the commentary, but it's all people were talking about in the bars of Denver that night."

MacGuyver Movie?

The author does a pretty great job of summing up why I loved this show when I was a kid:

"Though, actually, when you go back to watch his adventures two decades after they first aired, you discover Mac's target audience probably consisted mainly of boys, not men... This jogged in me memories of boyhood, especially of how, after watching each MacGyver trick, I'd feel a bit invincible: I was small, but I was clever. Like MacGyver, I could take them."

Stephen Colbert + Awards With Mirrors Built-In = A Match Made in Heaven

Stephen Colbert spoke at Princeton's graduation ceremony this week, encouraging graduates not to change the world. He was also awarded the, "The Great Princeton Class of 2008 Understandable Vanity Award." (pictured at left). He went into further specifics in his speech, encouraging the graduates not to change global warming, saying, "The older generations cut down the forest and sprayed millions of tons of CO2 in the air for a reason -- because they felt a draft in here. ... When you're older, you'll understand that it is a lot easier to raise the ocean temperatures a few degrees than to remember to bring a cardigan."

As the grandson of a Princeton grad, I couldn't be more proud of this hallowed institution. Ah Colbert... what will your bump do for the Tigers?
