Drill Baby Drill into the Future???

Well, the GOP had a bit of a tough time picking their new leader but in the end they chose Michael Steele, Lt. Governor of Maryland. Grist magazine helpfully points out today that one of Steele's biggest accomplishments to date has been coining the term, "Drill, baby! Drill!"

That's right! You mighta thunk it was our pal Sarah, but I'll say it ain't so, Joe. It was Mikey who likes oil and drilling so much that he put this clever little tidbit together, and only after it had slipped out of his mouth did it later gain legs and become the happy-go-lucky rallying cry of Mrs. Palin and so so so so so many Republicans from sea to shinging sea.

Wowza.

"I want you to find more of those delegates with those unusual hats..."

Just a little quote from Wolfie the Blitzer, one of my most/least favorite characters in the world of Cable News. I have been sitting here doing a little evening time work and watching some ridiculous coverage of the Republican convention and I couldn't help tossing up a post with the amazing quote above. Wolf Blitzer was congratulating Dana Bash on finding a crazy lady delegate on the floor who had created lots of crazy crazy buttons out of cards in her hotel room and afixed them to her cow spotted cowgirl hat... I really can't do all the crazy justice, but now there's some sort of patriotic photo montage going on... god, this is all so distracting. I think I'll need to put it on mute.

Timetables, huh? Interesting idea... sounds familiar.

Just a little piece today in the AP about how Condoleezza Rice and the Iraqis met and talked through an agreement that's nearly complete. This agreement would lay out something people are describing as "timetables" for US withdrawal from Iraq.

Funny, I seem to remember one of the presidential candidates advocating for such timetables... and perhaps even a whole party doing so (sorry this article is like 2 years old... wait... that's not even old enough to capture just how long the Dems have been pushing for timetables). I also seem to remember another party, oh, I dunno, attacking such ideas as defeatist politicking.

Anyway, just a little news piece. Just some back-peddling. Perhaps a dash of hypocrisy? That's all. Nothing big.

UPDATE: Fox News calls them "Time Horizons!"
