"I don't know how ironic it would be,but..."

I heard about this a couple of days ago, but haven't gotten a chance to post until now. Seems that in Oregon, Obama was asked whether it would be ironic if he won the nomination by winning the state. Amazingly, he actually pointed out, in a nice way, that it would not be ironic. It's refreshing to see a candidate who actually uses words to mean things. Rather a nice contrast with McCain, who tends to use words loosely, even when they refer to terrorist organizations...

I always appreciate circumstances that point back to the realization, "oh, right, words mean things!"

I also love that you posted about this, while the whole world is going nuts over Tweety Chris Matthews handing the smack-down to right-wing nut-job (meaning: radio host) Kevin James over not knowing what the term, "appeasement" means.

As the analysis develops on the Matthews smack-down story Salon has suggested the whole thing offers a better referendum on the silliness of cable political shout shows rather than on Kevin James' intellect.

That is all to say, I think Obama parsing a discussion of whether irony is applicable is a much better reason to loop back to the meaning of words.
