"Words Mean Something!" - Obama

YES! This has been a rallying cry of mine for quite some time, and I was very extremely wonderfully pleased to read today on HuffPo that Barack Obama used a line I think everyone who gives a crap about the future, truth, and reality should adopt. The article linked in the last sentence reports on Obama taking his first direct attack on Sarah Palin, criticizing her for billing herself as an earmark fighter while she successfully chased over $4,000 a person worth of earmarks (that's over $27 million total) for the small city of Wasilla, AK while she was mayor.

In his remarks on the subject, Obama said:
"She's a skillful politician. But, you know, when you've been taking all these earmarks when it's convenient, and then suddenly you're the champion anti-earmark person, that's not change. Come on! I mean, words mean something, you can't just make stuff up."

ha! i saw that words-mean-something quote and thought WAIT! obama just stole john's line! some other interesting quotes i saw recently were mccain's and obama's initial reactions to the fannie mae freddie mac bailout:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122064650145404781.html

Mccain says: "his goal is to make the companies 'go away' and to push for regulation that 'limits their ability to borrow, shrinks their size until they are no longer a threat to our economy and privatizes and eliminates their links to the government.'"

note the republican candidate is arguing for more regulation here...

obama says: "the companies are a 'weird blend' and that 'if these are public entities, then they've got to get out of the profit-making business, and if they're private entities, then we don't bail them out.'"

so that sounds to me like these guys are positioning themselves as regulators in exactly the opposite way that they supposedly ought to based on party lines... the world is turning upside down!

Actually, Barack stole MY line that I wrote in January: "Words matter to me." A cop made a careless comment, quoted in the newspaper, that bugged me.

Sigh. Barack and I- soulmates.
